Why English?

Is English important to achieve your goals?

Teachers give many reasons why people should study English: some say it is important because English is the official language in many countries; others refer to it as the language of economy; in other cases it is said that bibliographies and web pages are mostly written in English; and let us not forget the popular reason about English as a way of surviving. Yes, those are great reasons. But, why are they relevant to me?
340 million people speak English as a first language, but you are not definitely one of those. You don´t need it every second of your life so what is the point of learning it? The key word is communication. It is necessary, especially in this globalized world, to interact with other people who don´t know our mother thong.
56% of web pages are edited In English so it will be great for you to read and learn valuable things for your studies. Besides, in a written work, it is well seen to include bibliography in a foreign language and a 75% of bibliographies are written in English.
Not enough reasons? Well, in almost every part of the world many people speak at least a little bit of English, if you speak it you will be able to communicate pretty much everywhere. Not only for surviving but it is also a huge tool for learning about a new culture, meeting different people, enjoying places you have never seen and, much more than that, increasing your knowledge of a world that is wide open for you to explore.
